An improvisation featuring some water under the bridge.

Sometimes I struggle getting an image finished (especially the very ambitious ones!). There is nothing worse, than having 4 or 5 major unfinished personal paintings, and having no pleasure in finishíng them.
This one however was a fast and fun improvisation. The bridge and water quickly materialised and I met no obstacles on the way. The painting took a long evening - around 6 hours in total.
After such an experience, it is usually easier to go back to the epic, difficult pieces.... ;0)

EDIT: I changed the title (formerly An Impression of Autumn) as well as the rendering of the water flow thanks to the very helpful comments and reviews!

This piece has a wonderful mood and a suitably autumnal palette. The brushstrokes are very natural, you have a distinct and appealing style which can be seen in all your work in your gallery here. Also a very bold use of highlight and shadow which engages the viewer.

The composition really draws the eye into the area under the bridge and the inquisitive mind immediately starts to wonder if here is anything residing under there. It feeds the imagination which is always a good thing in a painting.

One small criticism would be that the water does not look natural. You have a pretty steep slope and so the water would be flowing down quite rapidly. But the way the water is painted with horizontal brushstrokes makes it look quite static and gives no impression of motion. Also, the river gives the appearance of reaching an apex just beyond the bridge, which of course is a problem. So you need to find a way to show the viewer the that river keeps on upwards around the corner.
