Another fairly quick painting done in 4 hours.
This was inspired by a Mike Mignola graphic novel (Withfinder) which had some wonderful, dark and seedy environments from a gothic London.
So I just had to have my own go at it!
The painting was done in b/w with colours on top as an overlay.

Included here is a cool poem written for this painting by fellow deviant Thamalasca:

In old Edinbrough there is a Lane,
Where light of day will never gain.
All them folks that live there know,
If you don't pay, you better not go.

One day a young Lord,
Decided on his own accord,
To prove the old tale wrong,
And turn it into a song.

Merry, he strolled along the Royal Mile,
Blind to the shaking heads,
While tipping his hat with a bright smile.
Ignoring the voices warning that he'd soon be dead.

At the entrance of the Lane,
Stood an old hag.
Her face was filled with pain
while clutching a beaded bag.

"Young Master, a word of advice.
If you wish to continue,
You must pay the Price".

"And what Price would that be?"
He asks with pride.
"Nothing can harm me,
For I have Power on my side."

"Whatever Power you might wield,
Means nothing down here.
Not even the toughest shield
Can protect you from pure Fear."

"Well if that, old hag,
Is all I must face.
Here is a coin for your beaded bag,
And I shall go at my pace."

As he went down the stairs,
Darkness rushed in.
And despite the menace in the air,
He continued with a grin.

As only a murky light
Was now lighting his way,
The young Lord felt fright
For the first time of the day.

Then a door opened a little below,
Casting away the dark and gloom.
The young Lord smiled and shouted:"Hello"!
Unaware of his impending doom.

They grabed him tight
And pulled him in.
The young Lords' utter fright
Made him lose his grin.

Blood landed with a splat,
Just in front of the open door.
Then out slowly rolled a hat,
The young Lord is no more.

At the top of the Lane,
The old hag sighs.
The Tentacles of Pain
Have brought the young Lords demise.

The END

OK I'm really not a poet. But seeing this painting this is what started flowing into my head.

I had brain racking moment trying to find rhymes, and I hope on the hole that it is comprehensible.

I visited Edinbrough in Scotland Many times and your painting just reminded me of those steep stairs lanes where light of day rarely goes. All of then with evocative names that unleach the imaginary.

I hope you like my take on this.

I am working on the Embrace still, I hope to find time to finish it soon.

Cheers!

Now that was a really cool poem!!
You really hit an old fashioned wibe there.
Never been to Scotland, but it sounds like a cosy place ;0)

Do you mind if I copy the poem into the introduction, so more people can read it, when they see the painting?

Thanks for taking the time to create the poem. Take care!
