The image of molluscs jousting is impossible to look at without a smile; it really is cute. But it is also very evocative of a strange and alien world.
The landscape is quite lovely, with the gentle slopes and the trees. The huge mushrooms definitely creates a sense of unearthliness.
The artists skill in creating this picture cannot be faulted at all.
The picture is entitled 'Slug Jousting,' though I wonder if they might not be better described as snails? They appear to have hard shells.
The artist provides no background to the scene in the comments. Indeed, no information is necessary to enjoy this work, as it is such a memorable and attractive picture. Yet it might be nice to know if this is inspired by a fictional work. The question was raised in my mind as to whether these were intelligent molluscs? Are they fighting on their own initiative, or have they been goaded into it by unseen masters? Are there spectators watching the scene from a distance? Perhaps the artist intends to let the viewer find his or her own answers to these questions.
