Edit: Based on a few comments I altered the background to create more atmospheric distance. I also gave the distant mountains a make over. I will soon upload a "making of" describing the process of creating this image.
I created a making off, discussing some of the process of creating the image:
Hey man, this piece catched my attention and the concept is pretty interesting. The structure itself reminds me of some designs I've seen in Magic's Mirrodin Set. I got some critique though. First off, it's not too easy to read the size of it. For me it looked like a huge structure in a valley (because of the rock cliffs on the right and the small rivulets). I see those rivulets as small rivers.
On the other side the contrast, the shading on the vegetation and the scale of the rock forms say the opposite.
I did a fast overpainting on my blog for visual explanation of what I mean: [link]
A small list of what I changed: - I transformed the cliffs in the foreground - I add saturation to the foreground and add more green to the vegetation - I changed the lighting to a more evening-like mood - I defined the horizon a bit more - I add more light reflection to the cocoon-skin - A bit of this [link]
I think studies of landscape photography is going to help you. Also check the FZD videos on Youtube
Thank you, I am not sure there are people in this place, but bird like creatures are a good idea. I have planned to revisit this sometime in the future anyway, so they might make an entrance.
